Spanning the United States, China, and Japan, the investment focuses on three key areas:

First, production capacity for liquid silicone rubber (LSR) will expand at facilities in Carrollton, Kentucky, and Zhangjiagang, China. Slated to come online in 2027, the added output is designed to support high-performance applications.

Second, capacity for engineering silicone materials used in advanced electronics will get a boost. Projects in Shanghai's Songjiang district and Fukui, Japan, are scheduled to start production this year, while further expansions in Auburn, Michigan, and Zhangjiagang are targeted for completion in 2027.

Third, following a first-quarter expansion of its Shanghai laboratory, Dow inaugurated a global thermal management materials science lab in Midland, Michigan, in June. The facility aims to accelerate the collaborative development of next-generation thermal management solutions.

Dow noted that these investments will bolster its comprehensive specialty silicone capabilities across the U.S., China, and Japan. The focus is on advanced silicone materials and processing technologies to meet rising global demand in transportation, electronics, and healthcare.

Demand for specialty silicones in these sectors continues to outpace GDP growth, driven by stringent requirements for product performance, supply chain reliability, and technical service. Dow's strategy relies on a regional "local-for-local" model, aiming to align production capacity precisely with customer needs.

In transportation and electronics, the expanded capacity will support surging demand for high-performance, high-reliability silicone technologies. Applications range from smart mobility modules and data centers to microelectronics, power electronics, consumer components, and advanced safety systems. In healthcare, a broader market footprint strengthens Dow's end-to-end local supply value proposition—a capability becoming increasingly vital for strictly regulated, mission-critical products.
