Dow's Q2 Net Sales Rise 20% Year-on-Year

Gasgoo Munich-Dow recently released its financial report for the second quarter of 2026. Buoyed by higher prices, the company delivered a strong performance, with net sales climbing to $12.1 billion—a 20% year-on-year increase. Gains were widespread across all operating segments and regions. Local prices jumped 20%, led by the Packaging and Specialty Plastics segment as polyethylene prices rose globally, while foreign exchange added a 1% tailwind. Still, overall sales volume dipped 1% due to planned maintenance, though this was partly offset by growth in Performance Materials and Coatings.

On the profit front, GAAP net income came in at $802 million. Operating EBIT surged to $1.6 billion—up $1.7 billion from a year earlier—driven primarily by price increases and self-improvement initiatives.

Per-share metrics show GAAP earnings at $0.99. Operating EPS hit $1.44, swinging sharply from a $0.42 loss in the same period last year. That figure excludes $0.45 per share in significant items—primarily costs tied to the "Transform to Outperform" program, partly offset by tax adjustments linked to NOVA Chemicals.

Turning to cash flow and shareholder returns, operating cash flow for the quarter stood at $1.3 billion. This was driven by profit growth that outstripped the expected rise in working capital tied to revenue gains. The company returned $253 million to shareholders, entirely through dividends.

Commenting on the results, Dow CEO Karen S. Carter credited the team's disciplined execution for a strong second quarter, noting that market conditions were generally favorable and self-help initiatives moved faster than planned. She added that the company now expects the "Transform to Outperform" program to deliver roughly $200 million more than anticipated this year, pushing total self-help gains above $1.3 billion.

Looking ahead to the second half of 2026, Carter outlined three priorities: driving growth and innovation in attractive end markets, investing in and optimizing the portfolio, and ensuring balanced capital allocation. She stressed that the benefits of these moves will accelerate through the rest of the year and into 2027, bolstering the company's ability to create long-term value across industry cycles.
