Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 13) - Earlier this week, sudden news of Hawtai Motor agreeing to cooperate with Dutch sports car maker Spyker by investing in perpetually bankrupt Swedish brand Saab sent shockwaves through the industry. Just as suddenly, the agreement was terminated only yesterday evening. Furthermore, reports have already been circulating of Spyker discussing with fellow Chinese manufacturer Great Wall Motor.
Cui Dongshu, deputy secretary general of the China Passenger Car Association, was quoted as saying that it was courageous for Hawtai to make the agreement with Spyker, and would a step in the right direction of preventing the domestic industry from becoming overly self-reliant. Spyker's headquarters issued a statement saying that they would continue to negotiate with Hawtai.
In other news, an anonymous source was quoted as saying that Great Wall was discussing the possibility of cooperating with Spyker. However, secretary to Great Wall CEO Wang Fengying said that the negotiations were in the past and that there was currently no contact between their company and Spyker.
