EPICLAND's Zeng Qinglin on Huawei Partnership: Insisting on Software-Hardware Integration, Rejecting "Backup Plan" Mindset

Edited by Taylor From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich-Amid mounting scrutiny over how automakers partner with Huawei, Zeng Qinglin, general manager of the EPICLAND, recently laid out his strategy. While carving out a unique identity is every brand's mission, he argues that delivering the optimal user experience is the bottom line — and achieving that requires integrating the best resources available.

Zeng outlined three key pillars of his approach. First, he acknowledged Huawei’s deep technical reserves in intelligent driving. Citing achievements like its 896-line lidar, ADS 5.0 system, and 13 billion kilometers of autonomous driving data, he noted that Huawei’s R&D intensity, quality control, and safety standards sit at the industry's forefront — capabilities that ordinary suppliers simply cannot replicate.

Second, he stressed that powerful intelligent driving software demands a robust hardware foundation. If smart driving is the brain, then the chassis and safety systems are the skeleton and muscles. Only when software and hardware work in tandem can the vehicle avoid the disconnect of a "fast mind with slow reactions," ultimately delivering a product with superior overall performance.

Furthermore, Zeng emphasized that while leveraging external strengths, a brand must maintain its own R&D and manufacturing capabilities. Take the Yijing X9: it features the "Sky Dome Smart Shield" safety architecture and a Dongfeng all-aluminum chassis, deeply integrated with Huawei’s software to boost overall performance. He revealed that Yijing’s partnership with Huawei has been rooted in full-stack, native co-creation from the start. It is an "all-in" commitment, he insisted, not a "backup plan" mindset — with both sides bringing their absolute best technology to the table.

Yijing Auto is a mid-to-high-end smart electric vehicle brand jointly established by Dongfeng Motor Group and Huawei Qiankun in November 2025. Targeting families, the brand centers its philosophy on safety, intelligence, and open co-creation.
