Gasgoo Munich- FAW-Volkswagen announced on the evening of January 20 that its 10 millionth EA888 engine has rolled off the production line at its Dalian engine plant. The milestone underscores a significant step forward in the joint venture's large-scale powertrain manufacturing capabilities and the maturity of its core engine technologies.

The Dalian facility's production trajectory highlights the steady acceleration of output over time. After the plant began operations in 2007, it reached the eight-million-unit mark in June 2023, followed by the nine-millionth engine in September 2024. Just over a year later, on January 20, 2026, total production climbed to 10 million units, reflecting both sustained demand and manufacturing scale-up.
Volkswagen FAW Engine, a wholly owned subsidiary of FAW-Volkswagen, has since grown into the world's largest producer of EA888 engines, anchoring the group's global supply of this core powertrain.
According to the company, the EA888 engine family has undergone five major generations of technological upgrades. Its competitive edge lies in the combination of strong performance, high fuel efficiency and proven reliability, achieved through the use of Miller cycle combustion, dual variable valve timing systems and advanced turbocharging technologies that balance power output with lower fuel consumption.
The latest fifth-generation EA888 further advances these strengths by integrating Porsche-derived variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharging, a 500-bar ultra-high-pressure fuel injection system and a full-range Miller cycle. Together, these technologies deliver notable gains in thermal efficiency and performance, while raising smoothness, fuel economy and emissions performance to a leading level within the industry.
Today, EA888 engines are widely deployed across FAW-Volkswagen's Audi and Volkswagen brand lineups, powering high-volume models such as the Magotan, Talagon, Audi Q5L and Audi A6L. Spanning segments from mid-size sedans to mid- and large-size SUVs, the engine family remains a central pillar supporting the market competitiveness of the group's key products.
