FISITA — the International Federation of Automotive Engineering Societies — is a leading global body dedicated to fostering technical exchange and industry collaboration. This year's summit, held Nov. 4–5 in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, carried the theme "Embracing the Complexities of Mobility." It brought together major automakers, tech suppliers, and research institutes to tackle pressing issues: software-defined vehicles, AI, autonomous driving, battery technology, and the energy transition.

As a key voice on the Asian auto sector, Zhou delivered a keynote titled "Asian Automotive Transformation: Diverse Systems, the Collective Evolution of Chinese Vehicles, and New Waves of Globalization." Drawing on China's development practices, she outlined transition paths across different Asian markets and explored how China's auto industry built its competitive edge — and where its globalization push heads next.

"China speed," she noted, isn't just about shrinking product-development and tech-iteration cycles. It's the product of interacting forces: market demand, industrial clusters, tech integration, and supply-chain synergy. The rapid advances China has made in electrification and smart vehicles, she added, offer fresh experience and ideas for the global industry's own transformation.

On globalization, Zhou stressed that competitive advantages forged at home don't automatically translate into global strength. For Chinese automakers, the next phase of expansion must shift from mere vehicle exports to building local capabilities — developing long-term competitiveness in product adaptation, manufacturing, R&D, supply chains, and service networks.

Meanwhile, drawing on development experience from Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia, she highlighted the complementarity and room for cooperation among Asia's varied automotive systems. The future of the region's auto industry, in her view, isn't just a contest between nations and companies. It's about how they learn from one another and coordinate to weather a global transformation together.

Zhou's keynote at the FISITA summit gives the international auto community a fresh window into China's market shifts, tech innovations, and globalization playbook. It also deepens dialogue and experience-sharing across Asia's diverse automotive systems.
