CATL Debuts World's First Field-Validated Sodium-Ion BESS
On June 22, 2026, CATL officially unveiled the TENER Sodium Energy Storage System, the world's first real-world validated sodium-ion energy storage solution in Munich, Germany.
TENER Sodium delivers over 30 MWh of rated capacity on a fully modular architecture. Each single module weighs about 42 tonnes and only 34 units are required for a 1-GWh site.
On operational stability, the new system delivers an ultra-long cycle life. The company said it can reach 15,000 cycles at 25°C, corresponding to 70% state of health, equivalent to a 25- to 30-year service life.
The system is also all-climate ready. It offers more than 10,000 cycles at 45°C and retains more than 92% of its capacity at minus 20°C. The company said the system can also suppress fire and explosion under extreme conditions.
The solution has reached full commercial maturity across technology, production capacity, and supply chain readiness. Cumulative shipments are expected to reach 1 GWh by the end of 2026, with global deliveries to begin in June 2027.

ECARX moves to acquire Flyme software business in $266 million deal
ECARX Holdings announced on June 22 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Flyme software business in a transaction valued at 1.8 billion yuan (approximately $266 million).
The acquisition will be completed through the purchase of Hubei Qiguang Technology Co., Ltd., a dedicated entity spun off by DreamSmart Group to hold the relevant assets. The deal includes two flagship software platforms: the Flyme Auto intelligent cockpit operating system and the cross-device Flyme operating system.
The transaction brings into ECARX's portfolio one of China's most established software ecosystems. Following completion of the acquisition, ECARX will gain ownership of both Flyme Auto and Flyme OS, along with their associated intellectual property, engineering resources, development personnel, and production program infrastructure. The company expects the deal to significantly strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive intelligent cockpit software market.
