China Issues Guidelines for Automakers Competing Overseas

China's Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and State Administration for Market Regulation have jointly issued new guidelines aimed at regulating how Chinese automakers compete overseas and strengthening compliance as they expand globally. The guidelines cover pricing, dealer networks, localization, after-sales service, employment, cross-border data, intellectual property, antitrust and environmental standards.

Overseas pricing is a key focus. The guidelines encourage automakers to base pricing on costs and international market supply and demand, rather than using aggressive price cuts to gain an unfair competitive advantage. Companies should set clear price differences between vehicle configurations and avoid frequent or sharp price changes that could hurt consumers or damage their brands.

Automakers are also expected to respect the independent pricing rights of local dealers and distributors. Discounts, price cuts and financing incentives should comply with local laws, business practices and cultural norms.

The guidelines also call for stronger localization. Automakers should conduct market research and assess whether their products meet local consumer needs and driving conditions before entering overseas markets. They should also establish robust quality management and after-sales service systems locally.

The new guidelines go beyond vehicle exports to cover the broader overseas business lifecycle, from products and pricing to sales channels and operations. As Chinese automakers move toward local production and deeper market engagement overseas, building long-term, sustainable global operations is becoming an increasingly important challenge.

Leapmotor Global Deliveries Top 100,000 in August

Chinese EV maker Leapmotor delivered 103,129 vehicles globally in August, up 80.7% year over year, marking the third consecutive month that its monthly deliveries topped 100,000 units.

From January to August, Leapmotor delivered more than 550,000 vehicles, putting it over halfway toward its full-year target of 1.05 million units. The company's co-president Wu Qiang previously said Leapmotor expects monthly deliveries to remain above 100,000 from July through December, putting the company on track to meet its annual target.

Leapmotor says its growth is supported by a high level of in-house development. The company controls key components accounting for around 65% of vehicle costs, operates 18 component plants, and has achieved a 90% commonality rate across its vehicle platforms. This allows it to develop multiple models from the same platforms while spreading R&D and manufacturing costs across a broader lineup.

The company is also expanding overseas. Its B10 and C10 global models recently entered the Argentine market, offering consumers its range-extender technology. Meanwhile, Leapmotor's localization efforts with Stellantis are continuing to advance as the two companies expand the brand internationally.

With deliveries now consistently above 100,000 units a month, Leapmotor is emerging as one of China's fastest-growing EV makers—and its ability to combine cost control, rapid product development and overseas expansion will be worth watching as competition in global EV markets intensifies.

UBTECH's Humanoid Robot Business Surges in First Half

Chinese robotics company UBTECH reported RMB 1.27 billion ($176 million) in revenue for the first half of 2026, up 104.2% year over year. Gross profit rose 160.9% to RMB 567 million, while its gross margin increased to 44.7%.

The biggest growth driver was its full-size humanoid robot business, which generated RMB 590 million in revenue, up a staggering 1,445% year over year. The business accounted for 46.5% of total revenue, up from just 6.1% a year earlier, making it UBTECH's largest revenue source.

UBTECH sold 921 full-size embodied-intelligence humanoid robots in the first half, up 1,946.7% year over year. Across all humanoid robot categories, its total sales reached 16,123 units, up 268.3%.

The results highlight how quickly China's humanoid robotics industry is moving from technology demonstrations toward commercial deployment. For automakers, the trend is particularly significant as humanoid robots are increasingly being developed for industrial and manufacturing applications.
