Cailian Press: On August 27, Cui Dongshu, a senior official at the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), wrote that automobile production from January to July 2026 totaled 17.61 million units, down 3% year-on-year. New energy vehicle (NEV) output rose 10% to 8.95 million units, representing a 51% penetration rate, while internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle production fell 14% to 8.67 million units. Industry revenue for the period reached 6.078 trillion yuan, up 2.7%. Costs increased 3.8% to 5.406 trillion yuan, reducing profits by 20% to 216.2 billion yuan. The sector's profit margin stood at just 3.6%, below the 6.5% average for downstream industrial enterprises.
Cailian Press: China's machinery industry reported strong production growth in the first seven months of the year, according to the China Machinery Industry Federation on August 27. Value-added output across the sector's five major categories all rose: general equipment manufacturing grew 7.9%, specialized equipment increased 8.8%, automotive manufacturing rose 7.2%, electrical machinery rose 6.5%, and instrument manufacturing increased 9.4%.
