Geely Holding's NEV push lifts Q1 sales to record high

Gasgoo Munich- Geely Holding Group reported first-quarter 2026 sales of 937,927 vehicles across its portfolio, marking a record for the period. New energy vehicles (NEVs) accounted for 491,006 units, up 5.8% year-on-year, with the penetration rate climbing to 52.4%—meaning more than one in every two vehicles sold by the group was electrified.

At the subsidiary and brand level, Geely Automobile sold 709,358 vehicles in the quarter, also a record for the period. Its NEV sales reached 369,059 units, up 9% year-on-year, with penetration hitting 52%. Exports surged 126% year-on-year to 203,024 units, setting a new quarterly record as well.

To be more specific, the China Star lineup contributed 311,800 units, anchoring the company's internal combustion engine vehicle business, while the Galaxy series recorded 238,800 units and surpassed a cumulative milestone of 2 million vehicles within 37 months. Premium EV brand Zeekr delivered 77,000 vehicles, soaring 86% from a year earlier, with its 9X model maintaining a leading position in the 500,000-yuan MPV segment. Lynk & Co posted sales of 81,600 units, up 12% over a year earlier.

In addition, Volvo Cars sold 153,000 vehicles globally in Q1, with NEV models accounting for 47.3% of sales, while PROTON recorded 49,000 units—its strongest first-quarter result since 2004.

Separately, Geely Auto Group on April 13 unveiled its next-generation AI-powered hybrid system, branded i-HEV. Built on what the company describes as a "full-domain AI 2.0" architecture, the system delivers a tested combined fuel consumption of 2.22 liters per 100 kilometers and an industry-leading thermal efficiency of 48.41% for a mass-produced engine. It has also secured a top-tier Level 1 energy efficiency certification for hybrid vehicles. The technology is already production-ready and will be rolled out this year across key models, including Preface, Xingyue L, the fourth-generation Boyue L, and the fifth-generation Emgrand. Pre-sales for the i-HEV versions of Xingyue L and Preface are scheduled to begin on April 19.
