Gasgoo Munich- Geely launched the Xingyao 6 EF methanol hybrid sedan on November 3 in three variants: the 230 km Flagship EF, 230 km Premium EF and 130 km Luxury EF. Limited-time prices after subsidies start at RMB 76,800, while Geely claims operating costs can be as low as RMB 0.20 per kilometer.

Methanol hybrid technology
Geely identified three main barriers to wider methanol-fuel use: cold-weather operation, material corrosion, and the absence of established standards and validation systems.
To address corrosion, Geely developed methanol-resistant materials for the vehicle, along with dedicated fuel additives and lubricants intended to reduce the effects of methanol on components.
Geely says it has led or participated in the development of more than 20 national and industry standards related to methanol.
The powertrain incorporates five technologies that Geely describes as industry firsts. In addition to its ignition system, these comprise flexible methanol-fuel recognition, closed-loop combustion control for flexible fuels, vehicle-wide methanol resistance and the Xingrui AI Cloud Power 2.0 methanol power-domain agent. The latter manages methanol-electric power allocation, thermal management and powertrain health monitoring.

Interior and safety
The Xingyao 6 EF measures 4,806 mm in length, has a 2,756 mm wheelbase and provides 609 liters of trunk space. Interior equipment includes "zero-pressure" seats, a column-mounted electronic shifter, the Flyme Auto 2 digital cockpit and a 14.6-inch central display.

The cockpit supports voice commands for climate settings, media and navigation, as well as one-touch searches for methanol stations. An app-based function allows users to preheat the cabin remotely.
The vehicle uses a body structure with six transverse and four longitudinal load paths, together with three levels of protection covering the front subframe, battery pack and high-pressure fuel tank. Geely says 23 of the battery's test criteria exceed the requirements of China's current national standard.
