Gasgoo Munich- The Sino-German Economic Advisory Committee convened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the afternoon of February 25. Chinese Premier Li Qiang and German Chancellor Merz attended the session, which brought together over 60 business representatives from both nations.
Both premiers outlined the future direction of economic ties during the talks. Li emphasized that the fundamental structure of complementary economic and industrial strengths remains intact. With cooperation far outweighing competition, he argued that fostering a constructive competitive relationship would allow both sides to secure mutual gains and shared growth.
Merz, for his part, noted that the two nations are vital trade partners, pointing to long-standing, high-level economic ties that have driven growth in both countries. He expressed Germany's readiness to deepen mutually beneficial collaboration in sectors such as automotive, chemicals, and renewable energy to support a stable bilateral relationship.

Li Zhen, chairman of Gotion High Tech (usually known as Gotion, a manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries headquartered in China), attended as a key representative of Chinese enterprises. He participated in both the forum and the welcome luncheon, engaging in in-depth discussions with executives from Volkswagen and other leading German automakers on cooperation in the new energy sector.
During the session, Li highlighted Gotion's track record in Sino-German collaboration. He noted that following Volkswagen's strategic investment in 2020, the companies' jointly developed Unified Standard Cells have entered mass production and delivery. Additionally, he pointed to upgraded cooperation with BASF on chemical materials as a critical foundation for developing solid-state batteries.
Li expressed confidence in the immense potential for new energy cooperation between the two nations. He pledged that Gotion would act on the strategic consensus reached by the leaders, continuing to deepen pragmatic ties with German firms to drive high-quality growth in the sector and turn cooperation blueprints into reality.
