Gotion's Semi-Solid-State Battery Passes Extreme Tests, Four Overseas Plants Begin Production

Gasgoo Munich- On July 13, Gotion High-Tech revealed on an investor platform that its four overseas manufacturing bases—in Germany, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand—have successively gone online. At the same time, the company's G-Yuan semi-solid-state battery has cleared extreme summer and winter testing, officially clearing the way for mass production. The company also noted that it has a solid backlog of orders for both power and energy storage systems.

Positioned as a bridge toward full solid-state technology, the G-Yuan semi-solid-state battery features a hybrid solid-liquid design. Official data indicates the 197Ah prismatic cell boasts an energy density exceeding 300Wh/kg, while system-level density surpasses 235Wh/kg—a 36% improvement over liquid batteries of the same size. The company claims that pure electric sedans equipped with this battery can achieve a range of 1,000 kilometers. Furthermore, the cell passed a 3mm steel nail penetration test without catching fire or exploding.

Gotion High-Tech disclosed that the battery has secured endorsements from several major international and domestic automakers and is currently undergoing testing in multiple vehicle models. To date, the company has planned 12GWh of production capacity for semi-solid-state batteries, and its first 0.2GWh pilot line for all-solid-state batteries is already complete.

On the international front, these four facilities span Europe, Southeast Asia, and Indonesia, aligning with the needs of overseas clients like Volkswagen as well as China's export demand. Notably, the Vietnam plant represents Asia's first LFP cell factory, while the pack plants in Germany, Indonesia, and Thailand were the first to commence operations.

The announcement of these production milestones follows a strategic partnership signed last week with SANY Group, locking in orders exceeding 10GWh for heavy-duty truck batteries. Analysts suggest that combining semi-solid-state mass production with newly operational overseas capacity could help Gotion High-Tech climb the rankings for power battery installations by the second half of 2026. However, full mass production of all-solid-state batteries remains a distant prospect; for now, the company continues to rely on LFP and hybrid technologies as its primary delivery solutions.
