The Shanghai Gigafactory occupies a pivotal position in Tesla's global layout. Looking back at its development, the facility has continuously notched up key milestones. By the end of July 2024, Tesla announced the rollout of its 10 millionth electric drive system from the Shanghai plant. At the time, the company stated: "Tesla redefined the electric drive system, developing and producing it from scratch. Over 10 million of these powerful 'hearts' make every Tesla a performance car. We thank our more than 6 million owners for their support and company as we accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy."
Entering 2025, the Shanghai Gigafactory's capacity and delivery performance continued to break through. In early December, the plant announced it had produced its 4 millionth vehicle. Notably, the jump from 3 million to 4 million units took less than 14 months. Then, on Dec. 31 of the same year, Tesla's 9 millionth vehicle globally rolled off the line in Shanghai. Throughout 2025, vehicles produced at the Shanghai Gigafactory were exported to Asia-Pacific and European markets, enjoying strong demand across regions.
On the sales front, preliminary data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on Feb. 4 shows Tesla delivered 69,129 vehicles from its Shanghai factory in January 2026. This marks the third consecutive month of growth for Tesla's wholesale sales in China.
Meanwhile, Tesla's full-year financial report for 2025 reveals global EV production of approximately 1.655 million units and deliveries of 1.636 million, with Asia-Pacific deliveries hitting a record high. The Shanghai Gigafactory delivered 851,000 EVs during the year, accounting for more than half of the global total and remaining the company's largest export center worldwide.
