Shanghai September 27 (Gasgoo.com) Great Wall Motor plans to commercialize its first electric car in China next year, its Chairman Wei Jianjun said in a recent interview with the Beijing Times.

The company said it would keep its electric car for domestic sale, with no immediate plans to export these vehicles, Reuters reported earlier this month.

When asked if the company has any plans to make new energy vehicles, Wei Jianjun said the company has specialists who are doing research and development in this aspect, which, however, does not involve the R&D of batteries and motors.

Great Wall is a follower of other domestic automakers in development of new energy vehicles, but not lagged behind, Wei added.

In January-July 2010, the Baoding-based automaker sold 162,721 vehicles in the domestic market, up 84.1% from a year earlier. Vehicle exports increased 83.75% year on year to 32,807 units in the same period.
