Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 13) - Guangqi Toyota has issued a recall of 2,097 Toyota Highlander SUVs in China, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today. The recall, which is made in compliance with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine's regulations, begun this weekend and will cover Highlanders manufactured in late May.

The Highlanders (pictured) that are being recalled are suspected to have a flaw with the riveting holding together various assemblies located in their side curtain airbags. The airbags may not inflate properly, which would potentially fail safeguarding the vehicles' occupants in the event of an accident.

Guangqi Toyota will conduct free inspection and maintenance of all recalled Highlanders to completely resolve any issues.
