Chang'an Ford Mazda announced on April 3 that it will build the sales department to take charge of selling Mazda-brand vehicles themselves. The move marks the allocation of two Mazda operating strategies come into being in China.
Mazda has co-built a joint venture with FAW in 2005 but later it established cooperative relationship with Chang'an Ford and launched Mazda 3 in March, 2006.
Mazda repeated its sales goal of 300,000 units in China by 2010 but sales of Hainan Mazda have been unseen from this number.
Hainan Mazda has exploited the group's success in China, whose sub-brand Familia and Premacy have been best-selling models in this market for years. Mazda hopes to sell 95,000 in China this year, while Hainan Mazda has topped 100,000 units sales mark in 2005. Whether Mazda can retain its course is still to be seen.
