Gasgoo Munich- Hesai Technology recently unveiled plans for a robotics motion engine and a 3D world data engine at its Kosmo AI Day, aiming to build critical infrastructure for the physical AI era. Co-founder and CEO Li Yifan noted that physical AI is entering a 2.0 phase defined by general-purpose robots — making high-performance hardware and high-quality real-world data the most urgent bottlenecks to crack.

On the motion side, Hesai’s new power module shrinks volume by 37% while tripling power density. The unit already powers Sharpa’s W01 and W02 dexterous hands. The W01, featuring 22 active degrees of freedom, has been incorporated into NVIDIA’s Isaac GR00T humanoid robot reference design; its next-generation counterpart, the W02 — slated for release at IROS 2026 — packs 21 active degrees of freedom into an even tighter frame, cutting overall hand size by roughly 30%.
For the 3D data engine, Hesai introduced the Kosmo system. Its underlying spatial reconstruction engine can simultaneously generate 3DGS, mesh, and depth maps — tackling visual, interactive, and spatial-precision challenges in embodied AI training. In a real-world deployment at a DQ ice cream shop, Kosmo scanned the store and generated a 3D environment in roughly 15 minutes, lifting the Sharpa robot’s task success rate to 99%.
On the delivery front, Hesai expects to have shipped more than 10,000 robotic power modules by the end of Q2 2026. The product lineup is now expanding from dexterous-hand modules to full-body joint actuators. Shipments are forecast to hit six-figure volumes by 2027, underpinning broader commercialization of embodied AI products.
Li believes the two engines align tightly with Hesai’s core strengths and will serve as a second growth driver. The company is now extending a decade of full-stack capabilities — spanning the opto-mechatronic and software-hardware integration honed in lidar — into the wider physical AI market. The goal: evolve from a lidar maker into a physical AI infrastructure company.
