iMotion establishes Japanese branch in Tokyo, overseas business accelerates shift to direct local supply

Gasgoo Munich- On September 28, iMotion has officially established a Japanese branch in Shinagawa, Tokyo. This follows the opening of an R&D service center in Munich, Germany, and a production base in Malaysia, further rounding out the company’s overseas sales and localized service network.

The company stated that the Japan branch will handle business coordination between China and Japan and drive customer expansion, with a focus on advancing long-term cooperation with Japanese automakers.

In past years, iMotion’s international business largely followed the global expansion of Chinese automakers. Its German team has provided testing, validation, and EU GSR regulatory certification support for several Chinese carmakers, while also serving international clients like Volvo and Polestar. Currently, its products and solutions have entered markets across Europe, Southeast Asia, South Korea, and Japan.

That trajectory began shifting in the first half of this year. iMotion secured its first direct-supply nominations from overseas customers and orders from clients in Taiwan, signaling a move away from simply following Chinese clients abroad toward integrating directly into foreign automakers’ supply chains. The Tokyo expansion is a direct extension of that pivot.

Meanwhile, its overseas manufacturing capacity is also catching up. iMotion’s Malaysian joint venture has completed trial production and is scheduled to begin mass deliveries in the third quarter of 2026. With R&D services, local sales, and overseas production falling into place, iMotion’s globalization is no longer limited to simply exporting products.

Operationally, iMotion is accelerating its delivery scale this year. Revenue for the first half of the year jumped 107.79% to 760 million yuan, with deliveries of integrated driving assistance solutions and products topping 289,000 units. However, the company still reported a net loss of 53.01 million yuan attributable to equity holders. For iMotion, the Tokyo branch is just the entry point. The real test of its “systematic globalization” lies in securing mass-production nominations from Japanese automakers and building a steady stream of overseas revenue.
