Gasgoo Munich- On July 9, Insta360 formed a robotics team on its 11th anniversary. The company is entering the consumer robotics sector.
In an internal letter, founder Liu Jingkang outlined the strategy. The company spent the past decade making cameras "see more fully." The next step is making cameras "move on their own."
The company unveiled a technical vision for a photography robot codenamed "Cameraman." The device is designed to frame shots and track subjects like a professional photographer. It aims to allow users to focus on life while the camera operates automatically.

Insta360 stated that this is not a sudden decision. It results from 11 years of assembling "anthropomorphic" building blocks. These include eyes, neck, ears, torso, and brain across product lines.
The Luna Ultra camera, launched a month ago, is an "important unfinished prototype" for Cameraman. It features 8K lenses, a three-axis gimbal, and an AI processing unit. The device resembles a robot and can track subjects and compose shots automatically.
Liu revealed that the first robot will launch in the second half of 2027. The project has been underway for 18 months. The team of nearly 100 includes talent from DJI, Ecovacs, and Horizon Robotics. It focuses on an autonomous home camera robot. Pricing and mass production details are undisclosed.
Insta360 launched its first panoramic camera in 2015. Its lineup includes consumer 360-degree cameras, action cameras, and webcams. In 2025, the company held over 40% of the global consumer 360 camera market. Its action camera business ranks between GoPro and DJI. Amid slowing camera market growth, the move into robotics aims to create growth drivers outside traditional imaging.
