Gasgoo Munich-European energy storage provider INTILION has signed a memorandum of understanding with CATL. Under the agreement, the two plan to deploy 3GWh of TENER Sodium Energy Storage System across German-speaking markets—including Germany, Switzerland, and Austria—over the next five years. Targeting grid-level peak shaving and commercial and industrial storage scenarios, the move further expands the footprint of CATL's sodium-ion solutions in Europe.

TENER is a sodium-ion storage product CATL launched for frigid overseas markets, tailored to Europe's high-latitude, low-temperature environments. The system delivers up to 15,000 cycles and is engineered for stable operation over 25 years. It maintains high discharge power even at -20°C, meeting European grid frequency regulation demands, while leveraging sodium-ion battery materials to enhance site safety.
This isn't the first time the two have teamed up. Since 2022, CATL and INTILION have deployed more than 30 energy storage projects in Germany, building collaborative experience in project delivery, local maintenance, and grid connection. Leveraging INTILION's integration capabilities, channels, and client resources in the German-speaking region, CATL is accelerating the local adoption of its sodium-ion storage solutions across Europe.
CATL indicated that the two will continue to advance the parallel deployment of sodium-ion and lithium-ion technologies in Europe. While regional demand for energy storage continues to grow, barriers remain high regarding low-temperature operations, grid access, and safety standards. Sodium-ion solutions, which balance wide-temperature performance, longevity, and safety, are becoming a key complement to the European market. This 3GWh framework agreement marks an acceleration of Chinese sodium-ion storage toward large-scale commercial application in Europe.
