Shanghai, January 20 (Gasgoo.com) Anhui Jianghuai Automotive Co (JAC) will build a 407 million yuan ($59.7 mln) plant to make light commercial vehicles in east China's Shandong province, Shanghai Daily reported today.

The new factory will have an annual production capacity of 100,000 light pickups when it starts operation in 2012, the company said in a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange yesterday. Jianghuai is a growing Chinese producer of both commercial and passenger vehicles.

Jianghuai Auto sold 123,219 passenger cars last year, up 112%, thanks to the government stimulus measures that spurred demand for small cars. It also sold more than 180,000 commercial vehicles in 2009.

"We are considering building a second plant and adding extra work shifts for our passenger cars," said Zhang Xianhua, assistant to general manager at JAC Passenger Car Sales Co.

The company aims to sell 500,000 vehicles this year, including 300,000 passenger cars and 200,000 commercial vehicles.
