SANT'AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy — Lamborghini has launched a new e-commerce site for its followers, clearly hungry for Ferrari's success with its merchandising push.

Lamborghini's announcement about its new Web store came on Tuesday morning, as Ferrari issued a statement bragging about sales at its new Ferrari Store at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

Just one week past its opening, Ferrari said the store has "the highest sales [of all of its retail outlets] and an over 40 percent higher turnover than the best-run Ferrari store in the world with an average purchase double of what a store inside a theme park usually registers."

While Lamborghini's new effort is a virtual shopping experience, it is designed to give shoppers entree to a "glamorous and exclusive world," the exotic automaker said in a statement.

The merchandise includes everything from a Lamborghini Gallardo LP570 poster priced at the U.S. equivalent of $17 to a commemorative Lamborghini piston priced at $668. Lamborghini's marketing hookup with Versace is displayed prominently, with products including luggage and grooming kits for men. As expected, there are plenty of key rings, coffee mugs and menswear.
