This marks Leapmotor's entry into the MPV segment and represents the second model in its D-series, following the flagship D19 SUV. The D99 completes the automaker's puzzle in the high-end MPV market, establishing a "Flagship SUV + Flagship MPV" dual-matrix structure. It signals that Leapmotor has formally finalized its full-price-range layout, covering everything from the mass market to luxury flagships.

11 Seat Modes: Maximizing Spatial Flexibility

Designed for large families and business travel, the Leapmotor D99 measures 5,280mm long, 1,995mm wide, and 1,900mm tall (dropping to 1,880mm with the air suspension in its lowest position). It sits on a 3,110mm wheelbase, achieving an impressive space utilization rate of 91.3%.

The cabin features a 2+2+3 seven-seat layout. The second row hosts dual 124° true zero-gravity aviation seats that rotate 45° for greeting, 90° for sightseeing, and 180° for a face-to-face meeting mode. They come equipped with four-way electric leg rests, 10-point full-body massage, 3D wrap-around heating, and dual ventilation. The third row offers heating and electric adjustment for both backrests and headrests; these seats can also fold electrically by 90° to create "scenic seats," catering to outdoor activities like fishing, sightseeing, and camping.

Spatial flexibility stands as the vehicle's core selling point. It supports over 11 seat transformation modes and five different bed configurations. By linking the second and third rows, the vehicle can form a nearly 2.5-meter flat bed, suitable for overnight camping or family rest. There are 43 storage spaces throughout the cabin. With all seven seats occupied, the trunk offers 706 liters of space—enough for 10 standard suitcases—expanding to 2,890 liters once the third row is folded down.

On the comfort front, the D99 features 11 pieces of 5mm laminated acoustic glass and over 130 acoustic materials to create a quiet cabin. A world-first, automotive-grade "Forest Oxygen Cabin" supports an oxygen flow rate of 8 liters per minute, helping to alleviate driver fatigue and altitude sickness. Additionally, an 11.4-liter automotive-grade electric refrigerator offers a wide temperature range from -6°C to 50°C, while a 23-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system delivers 2,304 watts of power.

Dual Powertrain Layout: Attacking on Two Fronts with EREV and EV

The Leapmotor D99 offers both extended-range (EREV) and pure electric powertrain options, with dual-motor all-wheel drive standard across the lineup.

The extended-range version packs an 80.3 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering a CLTC pure electric range of 480 km—making it the EREV MPV with the longest electric range globally. This version is the first in the industry to feature CTC (Cell-to-Chassis) battery-chassis integration technology on an EREV MPV. Paired with an 800V high-voltage fast-charging platform, it can charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 15 minutes.

The pure electric version utilizes CATL's globally debuted "molecular-level fusion hybrid cell" with a capacity of 115 kWh and a CLTC range of 700 km. It adopts a full-stack 1,000V high-voltage architecture with a peak fast-charging power exceeding 460 kW, adding over 350 km of range in just 15 minutes.

Regarding the chassis, the D99 comes standard with front double wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension, complemented by dual-chamber closed-type air suspension and a CDC continuous variable damping system. The suspension offers 95mm of adjustment travel and features an active preview "Magic Carpet" function. The LMC 2.0 chassis motion control system supports high-speed stability control during a dual-wheel blowout (identifying and correcting within 200 milliseconds) and includes intelligent anti-motion sickness technology.

Smart Technology: Dual 8797 Chips + On-Device Large Model

Intelligence is another of the D99's strong suits. The vehicle debuts the industry's first dual Qualcomm 8797 central domain control chips. Built on a 4nm process, they deliver a total computing power of 1,280 TOPS, creating a super-collaborative cabin-driving integration architecture that leaves headroom for intelligent upgrades over the next five years.

For the smart cockpit, the D99 employs an on-device, full-modal AI large model with a five-screen, 3D spatial interaction system. This includes a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster, a 17.3-inch central control screen, a 50-inch AR-HUD, a 6-inch rear control screen, and a 21.4-inch 3K rear entertainment screen. Leapmotor OS supports six-zone independent voice recognition, mixed recognition of 13 dialects, and wake-free control for the driver.

In terms of intelligent driving, the vehicle uses a VLA (Vision-Language-Action) large model paired with 28 high-precision sensing hardware units, including a LiDAR. Covering 44 active driving functions, it achieves door-to-door full-scenario navigation assistance, supporting 120-meter trace reversing, full-posture automatic parking, and cross-floor memory parking.

Pricing Strategy and Market Outlook

Leapmotor's pricing strategy for the D99 is aggressive. The entry-level Premium Edition already includes dual-motor AWD, CDC dampers, second-row zero-gravity seats, a 17.3-inch central screen, a 23-speaker audio system, and door-to-door navigation assistance. The Smart Premium Edition adds dual-chamber air suspension, a 21.4-inch 3K rear screen, rotating second-row seats, and a refrigerator. The Flagship Edition goes further with dual 8797 chips, soft-closing doors for the front row, and megapixel DLP projection headlights.

In the 300,000 yuan new energy MPV market, the D99 is the only model to offer a 1,000V pure electric platform, an 800V extended-range system, dual-chamber air suspension, and 1,280 TOPS of intelligent driving computing power simultaneously. However, analysts note that MPV buyers often prioritize brand reputation and resale value over specification sheets. Whether Leapmotor can translate its product prowess into sustained market performance remains to be seen.

From a brand strategy perspective, the D99 launch not only perfects Leapmotor's A, B, C, and D product matrices—achieving full category coverage of sedans, SUVs, and MPVs—but also marks a critical stage in the brand's move upmarket. According to official information, the D99 will begin deliveries starting July 20, at which point the market will provide its first round of feedback.
