The agreement expands their cooperation as the automotive industry accelerates its transition toward electrification and intelligent technologies. It covers equity investment, new energy vehicles, intelligent driving assistance, powertrains, traction batteries, intelligent chassis systems, body manufacturing equipment, lightweight components, embodied-intelligence robots and financial services. Through the partnership, the companies aim to combine their resources and technical capabilities to strengthen innovation and competitiveness.

Since signing a strategic cooperation memorandum in March 2025, Leapmotor and FAW Group have advanced work on equity investment, the joint development and introduction of new energy vehicles, and the development of their industrial and supply-chain ecosystems. Their first jointly developed model is approaching mass production, while hybrid engines from Qixin Power are being supplied for Leapmotor's global models.

The companies said their next phase of cooperation will connect capital, industrial resources, products, technologies and ecosystems. They plan to coordinate resources more closely and pursue joint innovation in support of China's new energy vehicle industry.

Leapmotor follows a full-suite in-house development strategy supported by extensive internal manufacturing. The company says technologies and components developed in-house account for more than 65% of vehicle costs, while commonality across its vehicle platforms exceeds 88%. It currently operates 18 factories producing key components.

Leapmotor delivered 457,800 vehicles from January through July this year, an increase of 68.4% year over year.

Founded in 1953, FAW Group is one of the country's longest-established automotive groups. Its cumulative vehicle sales have exceeded 66 million units. In recent years, the state-owned automaker has pursued in-house innovation across the value chain alongside external partnerships as it accelerates its transformation into a more technology-focused company.
