Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 6) - Lexus has been forced to reduce production of its popular CT200h hybrid due to auto part supply shortages, Beijing News reported today. The CT200h has been a best seller in China since its market debut in late 2011.

"Production of the CT200h hybrid's (pictured) batteries has not been able to match demand, which has put us under a lot of pressure," Toyota Motor China Vice President Lang Lixin said. "It's very possible that our production [numbers] for the remainder of the year will be very low, which is very regretful," he lamented. Mr. Lang added that the CT200h is not only popular in China, but also attracts high levels of demand in Europe, the US, Japan and Hong Kong.

Over 1,000 CT200h hybrids are sold every month in China, thanks in part to its attractive 279,000 yuan ($44,213) starting price and an extensive six year and 150,000 km warrantee.
