LimX Dynamics robots enter construction sites to "work"

Edited by Betty From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- Gasgoo Embodied Intelligence reports that physical AI developer ZINOVA, working with construction robotics firm RIC Robotics, recently completed a demonstration of a scaled-down concrete pouring slab scenario using LimX Dynamics' TRON 2 dual-arm robot. The demo covered core processes including formwork assembly, as well as the laying and tying of multi-layer rebar.

This proof of concept confirms that embodied robots can handle general tools within complex construction workflows, marking a significant step for general-purpose robotics platforms moving into vertical industries.

ZINOVA is diverging from the industry's focus on specialized hardware. Instead, its research centers on "tool intelligence," building a framework around tool grasping, interaction perception, and task morphology. The goal is to reuse a single intelligent system across different tools, tasks, and robot forms, rather than engineering custom machines for every trade.

ZINOVA selected the construction sector as its initial proving ground. Plagued by chronic labor shortages and highly non-standardized environments, the industry has resisted traditional automation. In this demonstration, two TRON 2 robots collaborated—one armed with a nail gun, the other holding planks—to assemble formwork. They then laid and tied rebar on multi-layer supports, effectively replicating the logic of a multi-trade workflow.

Building on the TRON 2's modular and scalable design, ZINOVA tailored the robot's configuration for the large-scale, multi-step demands of construction. This adaptation expands the unit's operational range and tool-handling capabilities, extending its reach beyond desktop or low-altitude tasks into broader three-dimensional spaces.

Built on a "general-purpose base" concept and a fully modular architecture, the TRON 2 supports rapid switching between three core configurations—dual-arm, bipedal, and dual-wheeled-foot—using a single body. It also allows for reconstruction into forms such as humanoid or quadruped.

LimX Dynamics is also equipping industry partners with three core capabilities around the TRON 2: the hardware platform, a development tool suite, and a model training platform. By opening up SDKs, teleoperation interfaces, and hardware adapters, the company lets innovators build industry applications on top of a mature chassis, bypassing the need to build software and hardware foundations from the ground up.
