Gasgoo.com (Shanghai Nov 2)- Recently, J.D. Power Asia published IQS 2015, which revealed that China’s self-owned brands have a large leap in its quality, expecting new self-owned brand cars leveling with international brands in quality in 2017.
The report showed that the gap of 2015 new cars’ quality score between self-owned brands and international brands are narrowing, with only some small differences exist between the top 10 brand new cars. “Unpleasant smell in cars” is a key point to be noticed in both brands.
In addition, the top 5 problems of self-owned brands are “too much fuel-consumption”, "too large tire noise”, "no-start of engines after use of air-conditioners” and “too large ventilating noise” respectively. The biggest gap between self-owned brands and international brands are engine or speed-control system, car appearances and driving experience. In the meantime, international brands have more complaints of body insides.
J.D. Power published IQS each year, and the report in 2015 is based upon the feedback of 21,000 new car-owners of October, 2014 to June, 2015 and analysis data of 21 segment markets and 270 passenger car models including 71 brands. The comprehensive score is calculated by problems of every 100 vehicles (PP100), and the fewer problems means higher quality.
For example, the average quality score of new cars this year is 105 PP100. Korean brands got 80 PP100, better than other brands in a consecutive four year. Self-owned and international brands got 120 and 98 PP100 respectively.
"We expect local brands will catch up with international brands in PP100 in 2017, following the current trend.” Cai Ming, Product Consulting Director of J.D. Power said.
2015 IQS revealed that luxury car owners face more problems than mainstream brand car owners only in one area, which is the audio, communication, entertainment and navigation system.
Mei Songlin, vice president and CEO of J.D. China expressed his view that, with the popularity in mainstream brand cars, use frequency of audio, communication, entertainment and navigation systems will increase and more problems will occur. “The occurring rate of such design defect problems is expected to overlap fault or operation problems. In the Chinese market, to decrease problems, lift satisfaction degree and breed brand loyalty, it is increasingly important for automobile manufacturers to actively solve audio, communication, entertainment and navigation system and other technique problems.”
