Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 14, Gasgoo learned that the 2026 annual work meeting of the Inter-ministerial Joint Conference on Energy-saving and New-Energy Vehicle Industry Development was held in Beijing on the afternoon of January 13.
The meeting studied and implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions, carried out the Central Economic Work Conference’s decisions, reviewed work in 2025 and over the 14th Five-Year Plan period, discussed the "15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Intelligent Connected NEV Industry" (the Plan), and mapped out priorities for 2026.
The meeting stressed that developing new-energy vehicles is a major strategic decision of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and a key pillar in building a modern industrial system. Over the past year, member agencies implemented Xi’s directives on high-quality development of the auto sector, coordinated closely, and steered the industry toward more advanced and higher-quality growth.
During the 14th Five-Year period, the industry pressed ahead and exceeded expectations across key tasks, with China’s NEV market expanding 3.6 times; auto exports rising to No. 1 globally; battery cell costs down 30% while lifespan improved 40% and charging rates more than tripled—further strengthening international competitiveness.
The meeting emphasized that 2026 is the opening year of the 15th Five-Year Plan. With the intelligent connected NEV industry at a key window of opportunity, it called for a problem-oriented approach, systems thinking, and bottom-line awareness, alongside stronger coordination and more refined policy measures to drive high-quality development.
