The Mitsubishi Motors' models subject to the recall -- the eK Wagon, Minica and Toppo BJ -- were produced between September 1998 and May 2003. The recall totaled 241,775 units in the three models.
The vehicles may catch fire because of defective air conditioner parts made of polyurethane, the transport ministry said.
Six fires number among 39 reports filed on the defective parts, said ministry official Yasuyoshi Nakamura. No injuries were reported.
Tokyo-based Honda is recalling 129,159 minicars in three models -- the Acty, Vamos and Vamos Hobio -- produced between August 2001 and January 2007.
There were no reports of accidents or injuries from the Honda defects, which include possible exhaust gas leak due to defects in the exhaust pipe, defective door parts and welding problems.
