New SAIC-GM-Wuling factory in Guangxi begins operation

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 20) - SAIC-GM-Wuling has announced that its eight billion yuan ($1.27b) new passenger automobile production site in Liuzhou, Guangxi has officially begun operation, China Business News reported today. The new site will be able to manufacture up to 400,000 vehicles annually, with its key products including the Baojun 630 and the own brand version of the Chevrolet Aveo.

The site, which is located in Liuzhou's Liudong New District, contains welding, painting, general assembly and other facilities. There are further plans to construct an engine factory and auto part allocation area at the site, with the manufacturer investing 1.3 billion yuan ($254.79m) to build the former.

SAIC-GM-Wuling General Manager Shen Yang stated that he is confidant that new site will ensure that the manufacturer will be able to release new products annually.

According to Mr. Shen, SAIC-GM-Wuling also has plans to establish a state-of-the-art R&D center at the site which will be specifically geared towards passenger automobile development.

Several domestic and foreign auto part manufacturers, including Continental, UAES, and Visteon possess or are in the process of building facilities in Liuzhou as well.
