Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On the morning of January 6, NIO Inc. rolled its one-millionth mass-produced vehicle off the production line at its NIO Advanced Manufacturing Xinqiao Phase II plant in Hefei, marking a landmark moment in the company's development.

To underscore its support for cutting-edge scientific research in China, NIO announced that the milestone vehicle—a brand-new ES8—will be donated to the Anhui Mozi Quantum Technology Foundation, where it will serve the mobility needs of leading researchers in the quantum technology field.
At the ceremony, Pan Jianwei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, accepted the vehicle on behalf of the quantum science research community.
From the rollout of its first founder's edition ES8 in 2018 to the current multi-brand strategy spanning NIO, ONVO, and FIREFLY, the company's journey to one million vehicles reflects both the pace and momentum of China's intelligent electric vehicle sector.
Mr. Bin Li, NIO's founder, chairman and CEO, described the milestone as “a new starting point,” saying the company is entering a third phase of development centered on high-quality growth. Looking ahead, he said NIO will continue to invest decisively across its 12 core full-stack technologies to maintain leadership in products and innovation, while accelerating infrastructure deployment with a long-term goal of surpassing 10,000 charging and battery-swap stations by 2030. He added that deeper coordination among the three brands will be key to expanding market share across segments, sustaining annual growth of 40% to 50%, strengthening the China market and pursuing a more disciplined and efficient global expansion.
NIO noted that all one million vehicles have been produced in Anhui province, highlighting the critical role played by local government support and Hefei's business environment in helping the company navigate challenges and sustain long-term growth.
To date, NIO has invested a cumulative 65 billion yuan in research and development, building a comprehensive capability framework around 12 core technologies for intelligent electric vehicles. It has also spent 18 billion yuan on charging and battery-swap infrastructure, establishing 8,541 stations nationwide and delivering more than 96 million battery-swap services.
