NIO Power, CGN New Energy Reach Strategic Partnership

Edited by Betty From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- On October 28, NIO Power and China General Nuclear Power New Energy Holdings—referred to as CGN New Energy—signed a strategic partnership agreement in Shanghai. The two sides will deepen cooperation across three pillars: zero-carbon management, green power, and energy services, jointly advancing the green integration of new energy vehicles and modern power systems.

Under the deal, CGN New Energy will leverage its expertise in power-carbon assets and digital platforms to back NIO's carbon asset management, emission accounting, and the development of zero-carbon factories and industrial parks—accelerating the low-carbon transition for NIO and its supply chain.

On the green power front, CGN New Energy will prioritize supplying NIO with green electricity and renewable energy certificates in regions where power market trading is already underway. That backing will help NIO build a green charging and battery-swapping network and roll out zero-carbon products.

For energy services, the partners will push charging and battery-swap stations, along with EVs, into power markets and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) schemes. Drawing on NIO's battery-as-a-service (BaaS) model and large-scale battery assets, they will also collaborate on comprehensive battery utilization and user-side energy storage operations—exploring a new "vehicle-station-grid" synergistic energy ecosystem.

The companies already share a solid footing in power market cooperation. This agreement signals a deeper tie-up: blending clean energy assets with distributed, flexible load resources, and turning individual strengths into a shared business and ecosystem. The move injects fresh momentum into the integration of new energy vehicles and modern power systems.

NIO has poured more than 20 billion yuan into charging and battery-swapping technology and infrastructure. As of October 28, it had built 9,715 charging and battery-swap stations nationwide—including 4,202 swap stations, 5,513 charging stations, and 31,831 individual chargers.
