Step aside Toyota – Nissan is now the top selling Japanese automaker in China and plans to take advantage of that. After announcing their plans to expand the business with a Chinese plant, the team expects numbers will be higher than their initial target.
During the new sport utility vehicle plant opening in Zhengzhou, Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn made a few colossal statements. Although numbers projected for the Chinese plant were high, they’re now throwing them even higher. The targeted goal for 2012 will be to push 1.2 million units through the facility, up from the original one million. Nissan is looking to grasp a ten percent share in the Chinese auto making market, autos biggest in the world.
The Chinese expansion isn’t the only international market the makers of Atlima, Murano and Frontier are expanding. Nissan has additionally projected growth in Argentina, as reported in a press release from early September.
The team partnered with Manuel Antelo for an early 2011 partnership that will continue to brand Nissan in the Argentinean countryside. The current Argentina distributor, Renault Argentina S.A., will act as the liaison until the end of 2011.
“Today is an important milestone for Nissan growth in Argentina,” said Carlos Tavares, Chairman of Nissan Americas, in a press statement. “While Renault Argentina S. A. has been a key contributor to the success of the Nissan brand in this country, we know that distinct business structures are now the best roads for both brands’ business growth in Argentina. By forming a separate Nissan operation we allow Renault to concentrate on its business while positioning the Nissan brand for growth acceleration in this market. This reinforces our long-term commitment to Argentina.”
