Gasgoo Munich-onsemi officially unveiled its China strategy on March 31, pledging to deepen its industrial footprint with a sharper focus. By strengthening regional leadership, expanding manufacturing partnerships, and enhancing local collaboration, the chipmaker aims to help clients accelerate their global expansion. "China is one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing technology markets globally," said Hassane El-Khoury, president and CEO of onsemi. "Our customers need more than just components; they want partners who can innovate alongside them with aligned execution. Our China strategy is designed to co-create solutions with customers in China and scale them for the global market."

The incoming general manager for China will concurrently serve as head of systems engineering for the region. This dual role blends technical insight with managerial decision-making, aiming to accelerate system-level innovation while strengthening onsemi's high-level collaboration within the industrial ecosystem. Establishing Shanghai as the Greater China headquarters will further serve as a central hub for regional synergy, faster decision-making, and deeper ecosystem partnerships.

To drive this strategy forward, onsemi has established four core pillars: "Design in China, Make in China, Deepen in China, Go Global." On the design front, the company is expanding its Shanghai R&D and systems engineering teams to co-define products with Chinese clients, building system-level solutions for the automotive, industrial, and AI data center sectors. Currently, the company operates eight joint application laboratories in China and plans to add three more, prioritizing the development and deployment of localized solutions for AI power applications.

On the manufacturing front, onsemi is integrating its internal capabilities with resources from local Chinese partners to build a unified system covering both front-end and back-end processes. This creates an efficient "engineering-to-manufacturing" feedback loop, boosting the speed, efficiency, and scalability of product development and production. A key part of this layout is the partnership with Innoscience; the two companies will work together to accelerate the global commercialization of their gallium nitride (GaN) product portfolios.

"Deepen in China" and "Go Global" act as critical supports for the strategy's execution. onsemi plans to further integrate into China's innovation ecosystem and deepen local collaboration with customers and partners, honoring its commitment to local procurement and long-term value creation. Leveraging its global manufacturing footprint, the company aims to export technology platforms proven in the Chinese market to the rest of the world, helping clients bridge the gap from "success in China" to "global scale."
