Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 16) - Mitsubishi China will begin recalling 2012 model year Pajero Sport SUVs in China, Xinhua reported today, citing an announcement made by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. The manufacturer will conduct three individual recalls, which will target over 5,000 Pajero Sports.
The first recall is targeted at 2,338 imported Pajero Sports (pictured) manufactured between late August and mid-June 2012. This batch of vehicles suffers from a design flaw in which the backrest adjustment switch on the driver's seat may clash against various auto parts. This flaw becomes especially apparent when resetting the position of the backrest. This problem in turn may lead to the seat's electric motor being locked in place, which may damage certain auto parts.
The next recall targets 51 Pajero Sports manufactured in October 2011 that are suspected to have poorly positioned soldering points connecting the front drive axle to its cover sleeve. The solder may crack when the vehicle accelerates or under pressure, which can potentially endanger the safety of the vehicle's occupants.
In the final recall, 2,678 imported Pajero Sports carrying production dates from late August 2011 to early June 2012 are to be recalled due to an auto part manufacturing flaw. These vehicles also suffer from poor soldering, this time connecting the lower front swingarm's cover and its base. These solder points may crack when the vehicle experiences vibrations during driving, in which case the suspension may become unstable and the vehicle not drivable.
Mitsubishi China, via its certified dealerships, will contact owners of affected vehicles to schedule appointment times for free inspection and repair.
