Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 27) - Chery has announced that Porsche Designer Hakan Saracoglu will be joining the manufacturer, xkb.com.cn reported today. Mr. Saracoglu will be stationed at Chery's Shanghai-based design center.
Mr. Saracoglu (pictured), now 47 years old, will bring over a team of 30 people with him to Chery. His team will overlook a new design direction for the manufacturer, with its new projects including a new SUV concept. Chery clearly aims to draw from Mr. Saracoglu's previous experience working at Ford's European design center to help turn around its declining sales performance.
Chery is the most recent example of a Chinese own brand manufacturer recruiting foreign talent for their design teams. BAIC, Geely and Brilliance all made headlines last year due to their respective hires of Italian Association of the Automotive Industry Car Coachbuilders Group Chairman Leonardo Fioravanti, former Volvo Design Director Peter Horbury and Pininfarina Designer Dimitri Vicedomini.
