DaimlerChrysler plans to drop the Mercedes-Benz A-class model from its premium brand production range, the German business weekly WirtschaftsWoche reported.
A Mercedes-Benz spokesman said that was speculation and declined further comment.
Citing unidentified Daimler sources, the newspaper said the Mercedes-Benz A-class compact would be dropped in connection with the next planned model revamp in 2011.
The A class, the smallest Mercedes-Benz car, has been in production since 1997. Nicknamed "Baby Benz," it was the first front-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz passenger car model.
At the end of 2006, almost 1.5 million A-class cars had been sold, according to the company's Internet site.
