Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 12) - SAIC-GM-Wuling's new Baojun production site in Liuzhou, Guangxi will begin operation later this month, Beijing News reported today. SAIC-GM-Wuling has invested approximately eight billion yuan ($1.27b) in the site, which will be able to manufacture 400,000 vehicles annually. The new comes not long after the joint venture announced that expansion work of its motor factory in Qingdao, Shandong was completed.
The new 3,000 mu production site, which is located in the same region as SAIC-GM-Wuling's headquarters, contains five different facilities, including a knockdown assembly facility for exporting auto parts to other countries. The site will manufacture series sedans and crossover vehicles, as well as automobile engines. The own brand Baojun 630 and Baojun version of the Chevrolet Aveo are among the models to be produced at the site. According to SAIC-GM-Wuling officials, the JV also has plans to establish a state-of-the-art R&D center at the site which will be specifically geared towards passenger automobile development.
Several domestic and foreign auto part manufacturers, including Continental, UAES, and Visteon possess or are in the process of building facilities in Liuzhou as well.
