SAIC to invest over 45b yuan in R&D, aims to come to forefront of China

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 24) - In order to improve their overall competitiveness, SAIC Motor's passenger vehicle division will be investing 45 billion yuan ($7.13b) in research and development, Beijing News reported today. SAIC has proclaimed its desire to establish China's leading R&D system with the aid of its joint venture partners.

According to recently released statistics, combined passenger automobile sales from SAIC's Roewe (pictured) and MG own brands totaled 17,301 units in June, equivalent to year-on-year growth of 45 percent. SAIC has sold a total of 90,035 passenger automobiles since the beginning of the year, setting a new personal record.

In other news, SAIC Group's technology center has entered a new phase of development. The center's modeling and engine assembly facilities, as well as its testing rooms, have all begun operation.
