As a cornerstone of the MQB platform's powertrain architecture, the EA211 engine family has seen cumulative ownership in China surpass 20 million units since its inception in 2011.
According to the automaker, the new EA211 Gold Range Extender is built on the EA211 1.5T EVO II turbocharged engine. It features a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VTG) that adjusts airflow in real-time based on driving conditions, improving power generation efficiency while ensuring stable power response. A deep Miller cycle paired with a 350-bar high-pressure fuel system achieves ultra-high thermal efficiency and minimal emissions. Additionally, a water-cooled integrated intercooler effectively lowers intake temperatures to guarantee stability under high loads, while a closely coupled exhaust purification system reduces component resonance—optimizing NVH performance even when the battery is depleted.
During previous extreme cold trials in Heihe, the ID. ERA 9X equipped with this range extender achieved a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 6.31 seconds at minus 30 degrees Celsius with a low battery charge—a difference of just 0.8 seconds compared to a full charge. Crucially, the increase in cabin noise while the range extender is running remains below 0.5 decibels.
According to filing information with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the ID. ERA 9X measures 5,207 mm in length, 1,997 mm in width, and 1,810 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm. Visually, the model adopts SAIC Volkswagen's latest design language, combining a commanding presence with high-tech elements. The front fascia appears broad, featuring a full-width LED light strip and an illuminated brand logo, with a rectangular LED daytime running light section positioned below.
Regarding the powertrain, the ID. ERA 9X utilizes SAIC Volkswagen's 1.5T engine as a range extender with a maximum power output of 105 kW. It is equipped with a 65.2 kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC pure electric range exceeding 400 km.
