Shanghai GM Dong Yue Motors Company Limited is a $108 million joint venture manufacturing facility situated in Yantai, Shandong.
Corporate Structure
Shanghai GM holds a 50 percent stake and oversees management. GM China and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Group (SAIC) each hold 25 percent stakes in the facility, which was formerly known as Yantai Bodyshop Corporation.
Production
The manufacturing facility occupies an area of 520,000 square meters and has an annual designed production capacity of 100,000 units operating on two shifts. It is a complete automaking operation, with press, body, paint and general assembly shops.
The facility has adopted Shanghai GM's lean and flexible manufacturing system as well as its product, management and technology templates. In addition, product planning, production, purchasing, sales and marketing, IT, quality, human resources and other business functions have been integrated with Shanghai GM.
Products
In April 2003, the facility commenced production of the Buick Sail small car.
