Shanghai, January 22 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai GM will be launching the Buick Execlle hatchback tomorrow, a follow-up to the hot-selling Execlle sedan, media reported today.

The full range of the 1.6L, 1.8L and the flagship 1.6T unit are set for hitting the market on January 23, and their pricing is estimated at a range from 126,000 yuan ($18,450) to 176,000 yuan with the 1.6T unit at the higher end of the price range.

At the 2009 Guangzhou Auto show in late November, GM displayed its latest addition to the Chinese Buick range - the five-door Excelle XT. Marketed as a coupe-like premium compact hatchback, the Excelle was scheduled to hit Chinese showrooms in 2010.

Although the Chinese-spec Excelle shares a platform with the Cruze, it is actually a closer relative of the 2010 Opel Astra, with similar styling. Both cars receive a revised suspension, with rebound springs up front to reduce understeer and give a sportier driving experience.

The new Buick Excelle sedan sold 9,000 units in China within a week after going on sale on May 26, 2008. And last year a total of 241,100 Buick Excelle sedans were sold by Shanghai GM, making it the champion among foreign brands.

Shanghai GM earlier this month released the Chevrolet New Sail sedan, the first passenger car created by a joint venture in China as an economical family car model.
