Gasgoo Munich- Gasgoo reported that at the Intelligent Electric Vehicle Development High-Level Forum (2026) (Smart EV 2026) on April 11, Jin Yuzhi, senior vice president of Huawei and CEO of Yinwang, stated that 2026 should be Year One for global autonomous driving. With the U.S. Autonomous Vehicle Safety Act accelerating and China proceeding orderly with L3 access, both nations are pushing toward commercial deployment.

Huawei positions itself as the "electronic screw" of the intelligent connected vehicle era—an enabler rather than a competitor, and it does not build complete vehicles. It currently partners with over 25 automakers on more than 35 launched models, with cumulative installations of its driver-assistance systems reaching 1.4 million units.

Jin emphasized that safety is the bedrock of vehicle intelligence. According to Huawei's "Safe Mobility Report," vehicles equipped with the ADS system achieved 5.17 million kilometers between severe collisions in human-driven mode—2.87 times safer than average human driving. In assisted driving mode, that distance extended to 7.57 million kilometers, representing a 4.2-fold safety improvement. He called on the industry to publish safety data transparently, using hard numbers to demonstrate system capability.

He argued that L3 is an essential phase for conditional autonomous driving that cannot be skipped, urging faster adoption across all scenarios for consumers. He also noted a mismatch between the 10-to-15-year lifecycle of a vehicle and the 2-to-3-year cycle of intelligent hardware, suggesting replaceable hardware to keep technology current. Huawei aims to partner with industry players to drive safe, high-quality development of China's autonomous driving systems and lead the global market.
