Shanghai, February 2 (Gasgoo.com) Fujian-based Southeast (Soueast) Motor, a Chinese partner of Mitsubishi Motors, will start on Feb. 3 to recall 734 CVT-equipped Lancer sedans due to bolt safety problems, Xinhua News reported, citing China's quality regulator.
The Mitsubishi-brand vehicle will be recalled to fix the safety problem caused by the brittle lever-bolt made with improperly modified techniques, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) said in an online statement Monday.
The recall involved CVT-equipped Lancer sedans produced by Soueast from Nov. 17 to Dec. 15, 2009, and the manufacturer would fix the problems for free. Owners can contact Southeast Motor by phone on 800-858-1666 or contact the GAQSIQ on 86-10-65537365.
The Mitsubishi Lancer EX rolled off the production line in mid-September at Southeast Motor. Named "Lanse Yishen" in Chinese, the Lancer EX is Mitsubishi's strategic model in China to rival the Civic (by Dongfeng Honda) and Focus (by Changan Ford).
The previous Mitsubishi Lancer has been a flagship sedan model of Southeast Motor and once accounted for 60% of the Chinese carmaker's sedan sales. Mitsubishi introduced the Lancer EX as the first model for its all-new strategy in China.
