The talks mark the latest step in deepening ties between Stellantis and Dongfeng. In May 2026, the two sides signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture in Europe. Stellantis will hold a 51% stake and Dongfeng 49%, with the new company headquartered in Europe. It will oversee sales and distribution of Voyah electric vehicles in Europe, while also managing production, procurement, and engineering functions.

Dongfeng Stellantis Automotive Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd. (DSAT) serves as the main operating body for the Dongfeng-Stellantis joint venture. In August 2026, Dongfeng Stellantis Automotive Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd. (DSAT) completed a brand refresh, taking over management of the pair's joint-venture operations in China. The following September, it struck a global strategic partnership with Momenta to jointly develop advanced driver-assistance systems based on Momenta's R7 world model. The system will be fitted on new Peugeot and Jeep production models under the Stellantis umbrella, targeting China, Europe, and broader global markets.

Stellantis has steadily scaled back its China operations in recent years. Yet through its partnership framework with Dongfeng, the automaker is pivoting from simply selling cars in China to a model built on "technology swaps and global sharing." Dongfeng gains a channel to export Voyah models to Europe via Stellantis' overseas sales network, while Stellantis taps into Chinese autonomous driving technology and new energy vehicle supply.

Both sides pledged to keep strengthening strategic alignment and push forward with an industrial cooperation model centered on "Chinese innovation, global sharing." Dongfeng Stellantis Automotive Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd. (DSAT)'s operational efficiency and the pace of its overseas expansion will serve as the key barometers for the success of this framework.
