On Jan 8, Tesla's Gigafactory Shanghai rolled out its 5 millionth electric drive system. Tesla says its in-house three-in-one integrated drive system — combining the motor, gearbox and inverter — delivers higher energy conversion efficiency in a more compact, lighter package.

Gigafactory Shanghai occupies a pivotal place in Tesla's global footprint. Milestones there keep coming. In late July 2024, Tesla said the global 10 millionth electric drive system rolled off the line at Gigafactory Shanghai. At the time, the company said: "Tesla has redefined the electric drive system, developing and building it in-house from scratch. More than 10 million powerful 'hearts' make every Tesla a performance car. Thank you to over 6 million owners for your support and loyalty as we accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy."
As 2025 got underway, Gigafactory Shanghai kept pushing output and deliveries to new highs. On Dec 10, its 4 millionth vehicle rolled off the line; on Dec 31, Tesla's 9 millionth vehicle globally was completed there. Throughout 2025, vehicles built at the plant continued to be exported to Asia-Pacific and Europe, where they sold briskly.
On the sales front, Gigafactory Shanghai delivered more than 97,100 vehicles in December 2025, up 11% month on month and the highest monthly total of the year, according to the latest data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). Tesla's domestic sales that month are estimated at about 94,000, roughly 13% higher than a year earlier.
For 2025 as a whole, Tesla delivered about 1.636 million electric vehicles worldwide. Gigafactory Shanghai accounted for 851,000 — 52% of the total — remaining the company's largest export hub.
