The new facility doubles production capacity at Infineon's Dresden site, creating the world's largest manufacturing base for smart power semiconductors and analog/mixed-signal technology. With roughly 1,000 new direct jobs created, the move further cements the status of Dresden and the surrounding "Silicon Saxony" region as Europe's leading semiconductor cluster.

Fully digitalized, the plant leverages digital twins to optimize building and equipment layouts, while AI algorithms handle system verification — driving a sharp boost in production efficiency. Its ramp-up speed is twice as fast as previous standards. Meanwhile, the Dresden site operates in sync with Infineon's Villach plant in Austria under a "Virtual One Fab" model. This collaboration significantly accelerates the certification of new processes and products, allowing the company to move more swiftly on opportunities in emerging markets like artificial intelligence.

Semiconductors produced here will power a wide range of applications, including efficient energy supplies for AI data centers, wind and solar systems, and software-defined vehicles. Key use cases involve smart switches capable of real-time current monitoring. By combining power semiconductors with analog/mixed-signal components, these solutions deliver higher energy efficiency and smarter system performance.

On the sustainability front, the plant's manufacturing systems operate without natural gas. Advanced water treatment and closed-loop circulation systems are expected to recycle around 90% of process water and recover up to 45% of energy — a marked improvement in the environmental footprint of semiconductor production. With the Smart Power Fab now online, Infineon is bolstering supply chain security and energy efficiency for critical industries worldwide.
