Under the plan, GAC Toyota will recall 317,990 Highlander units produced between August 7, 2021, and September 22, 2025. The recall is set to begin April 1, 2026.

Meanwhile, FAW Toyota will recall 242,170 Crown Kluger units produced between July 27, 2021, and January 20, 2026, also effective from the same date. Combined, the two companies are recalling more than 560,000 vehicles.

The vehicles covered by this recall have a design defect in the second-row seat back adjuster. Specifically, the return spring was set with excessive force, creating a risk that the seat back locking function could fail.

In the event of a collision, an unlocked seat back may fail to provide adequate restraint, significantly increasing the risk of injury to occupants.
