Shanghai, March 15 (Gasgoo.com) Toyota Motor should compensate Chinese consumers for faulty vehicles and provide a timetable for repairing these vehicles, the head of the industry and commerce administration of China's Zhejiang province said recently, Bloomberg reported.
Zheng Yumin, head of Zhejiang's Administration for Industry and Commerce, also asked the Japanese carmaker to provide a timetable for repairing faulty vehicles purchased by Chinese consumers, according to the statement.
"We have not yet seen any concrete measures taken by Toyota to correct their mistakes," said Zheng Yumin, head of Zhejiang's Administration for Industry and Commerce. About 10% of the vehicles Toyota is recalling in China were sold in Zhejiang, eastern China, according to the agency.
Toyota has recalled about 75,552 RAV4 SUVs in China, the world's largest auto market, as part of global recalls of about 8 million cars and trucks to repair defects linked unintended acceleration. On March 1, the carmaker's President Akio Toyoda apologized in Beijing to Chinese customers for the vehicle flaws.
Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co. said the joint venture company has been lending customers vehicles "under special circumstances" and that it has asked dealers to fix recalled autos "in about half an hour."
Chinese consumers have to drive their vehicles to Toyota dealers to fix faulty parts, according to Zheng's statement. They aren't compensated for travel and other related expenses, and they aren't given vehicles for temporary use.
